For the World You Breathe InBergad, Inc., manufacturer of Isoform Mattresses and viscoelastic foam products, has developed the world's most environmentally friendly viscoelastic foam. "US manufacturers have a responsibility to promote the health and safety of consumers and the environment through innovative manufacturing methods."VOC's or Volatile Organic Compounds have become a growing concern among those seeking to offset our impact on global warming, and those seeking to reduce the off-gassed chemicals that are being released into our homes. "Chemicals that are off-gassed after a product is manufactured are sometimes referred to as the 'silent pandemic'," says Paul Bergad, President and Chief of Developing Chemistry at Bergad, Inc. Bergad also noted that, "US manufacturers have a responsibility to promote the health and safety of consumers and the environment through innovative manufacturing methods." To this end, Bergad, Inc. has developed a viscoelastic foam that has virtually eliminated hazardous chemical off-gassing. The new process completely eliminates the use of TDI (toluene diisocyanate), an OSHA class 3 carcinogen. Foams manufactured with TDI are known to release the carcinogen TDA (toluenediamine) after production. The new formula also does away with brominated and halogenated fire retardants as well as un-reacted amines. The new foam formulation replaces many of the current foams in the Bergad foam line, including Isoform mattress products. The foam is currently undergoing tests by US government agencies to allow its use in enclosed vehicles such as submarines and aircraft. More Information About Viscoelastic Foam & Your HealthQ: Where does Isoform Viscoelastic foam come from?A: We are the manufacturer of our own viscoelastic foams. There are only a small handful of companies who actually manufacture viscoelastic foam. Of that, only two companies manufacture viscoelastic foam and sell mattresses direct to the consumer; our brand the Isoform Mattress and Tempur-pedic®. Most sellers of memory foam mattresses on the internet do not manufacture their own foam, in fact, most is imported from China, and they may or may not be truthful about this. Q: Does Isoform use TDI to manufacture its foam? A: No. All Isoform viscoelastic foam formulations are straight MDI (polymeric iso) not TDI (toluene diisocyanate). We use ONLY MDI in our foam mattresses. Q: Why are American made Viscoelastic foams better that those imported from China? A: Our Environment: In China, manufacturers of viscoelastic foam are not required to follow the same strict environmental laws that apply to United States manufacturers. Your Health: Many hazardous chemicals that have been banned from use in the United States, are still widely used in China. For example, fire retardants containing PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) are widely used in China, but have been phased out in the United States as they are potentially hazardous to your health. |
